Dear HUM friends,
If Easter is here, can Spring be far behind?
Oh, wait! The calendar says Spring is already here!
We sing Halleluia! to the One who defeated death. The tomb is empty. Hope is alive. We rejoice in the promise of eternal life!
Now we look for signs of new life all around us.
We’ve had a tough, old-fashioned winter this year … and lots of folks are weary. We’ve had enough. As much as I like the winter months in Ohio – and I do! – I, too, am weary of it now.
It’s time for the gray skies to clear and the warm sun to nudge new life out of the cold, frozen earth.
In The Song of Solomon (2:11-13 NIV), we hear these hopeful words of the beloved:
"See! The winter is past,
the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit,
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
arise, come, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me."
The anticipation of getting our hands down into the warm earth and gently placing the seed and bulb into their respective sockets is as exciting as the child’s first view of the gifts under the tree on Christmas morning, or waking to a chocolate-laden basket on Easter morning! The world turns. The seasons change. The old makes way for the new. Life returns to our weary bodies and our dark souls.
God is good … ALL the time!
All the time … GOD is good!
May the joy of the spring sun be a foretaste of the joy in the eternal Son!
Let the justice and peace of God’s Kingdom reign on earth! And may the blessings of the risen Lord be yours!
