Dear Friends,
This month we remember the time when those first refugees — Pilgrims from England — reached the shores of a new land. Along with all the hardships they faced in an alien place, our ancestors recognized that this land overflowed with milk and honey — more accurately, with fruits and nuts and meat.
What are YOU grateful for today?
I am grateful for the days God gives me and for the times and places in which I have been placed.
I am grateful for the opportunities those days have provided.
I am grateful for my wife, who loves, supports and challenges me.
I am grateful for my daughter, who makes me laugh and proud.
I am grateful for yams and cranberries and apple pie.
I am grateful for my friend, who accepts me, warts and all.
I am grateful for the black walnut tree, which was and is no more.
I am grateful for the gift of reason and critical thinking.
I am grateful for the tufted titmouse who comes to our feeder, and for the junco who takes fallen seed from the ground below … and for the sweet songs they both sing.
I am grateful for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
I am grateful for those who have achieved perfection, and I ask them to teach me how I, too, may reach it.
I am grateful that God has placed me in this church.
I am grateful for fried green tomatoes and pickled beets.
I am grateful for preschool children, who yell, “Hi, Pastor Ron!”
I am grateful for dogs named Cassie and horses named Ethan.
Oh God, make me grateful for all things great and small!
Happy Thanksgiving!
