Appalachian Service Project
The mission of the Appalachian Service Project is to " ... provide vital housing services to low-income families living in Central Appalachia as well as transformational life experiences to those we serve, volunteers offering their service, congregations involved with ASP, and entire communities."

The Appalachian Service Project (ASP) is a wonderful opportunity for youth grades 8-12 and adults to participate in a well-established Christian mission project.
ASP has been an active program here at HUM for the past fifteen years. We have repaired over sixty homes, touched countless lives, and returned from our trips with a renewed sense of who we are and what we have.

This mission is offered to anyone who is over 14 years old and completed 8th grade. If you have any questions, please contact Bill Headland or call the church office at 330-856-3463. Additional information is available on the ASP website.

Care Packages
It is our hope that college students and service personnel will not lose a connection with Howland United Methodist Church during their time away from home. One way of keeping this important tie with these young adults is through sending care packages. We do not keep any information from the year before, so please contact the church office if you have someone in college or in the service.

We are also asking for donations of items and for help putting together the care packages. Please contact the church office if you are interested in donating or helping.

Family Promise
Family Promise of Mahoning Valley is a new and innovative way to help low-income families achieve and sustain their independence. Family Promise provides shelter, meals and comprehensive assistance to homeless families. It is a network of churches that offers homeless families a place to sleep and balanced meals while they search for work and a home. Each church will host three or four families for one week about four times a year.

Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is about sharing the gift of God’s son Jesus Christ with the world. You can share Christ with needy children in Afghanistan, Sudan, or another troubled country by taking part in Operation Christmas Child, a missions project of Samaritan’s Purse. Any age can fill a shoe box for a needy child. It is incredible to see children’s eyes light up when they receive these shoe boxes! They also receive Christian literature in their own language inside their shoebox. Please make it a part of your Christmas tradition to send a shoebox and spread the message of Jesus Christ.

Relay for Life
Relay for Life is the community coming together to bring awareness to cancer and to celebrate cancer survivors as well as raise money for cancer research. Different churches, businesses, and organizations all have decorated tents stating how they feel about cancer. Each team has someone walking around the track for 24 hours. It is ia great time to see people and learn about cancer in a festival-type atmosphere. Friday evening they have a beautiful and very meaningful ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as those who lost the battle to cancer in the last year, followed by fireworks. They also serve a free steak dinner to cancer survivors after the opening lap on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen
Adults serve at the kitchen on the last Friday of every month throughout the year. We always need and appreciate your help! Contact coordinator Debbie Macino for more information about how you can help. A sign-up sheet is on the Narthex bulletin board. The youth of HUM serve at the Soup Kitchen on the second Saturday of every month from September to May.

The United Methodist Community Center of Warren is " ... serving the needs of young people in crisis and their families in the greater Mahoning Valley." It is located at 760 Main Avenue SW, Warren 44483. We are part of the UMCC with two sites: Pearl Rd, Youngstown; and the one in Warren

Warren Family Mission
"For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me."

-Matthew 25: 35-36

Our church is supporting the Warren Family Mission by placing non-perishable items in the shopping cart in the Narthex.
